Serving Christ | Motivational Monday

Serving Christ is not as complicated as some make it out to be. We don’t have to speak grandiose words or look a certain way. We can simply use the very gifts God has blessed us with to serve. For today’s Motivational Monday, I will talk about what it means to serve Christ.

What does it mean to serve Jesus Christ? Why do we serve Him?

When we serve Jesus Christ, we are sharing the amazing, living Word of God. We are a testimony of Jesus’ teachings and the sacrifice that He made on the cross for humankind. Through our service, others are empowered to accept Jesus as their personal savior and honor God as well. Jesus gave His life for us, so we should give our lives back to Him in service.

Matthew 28:18-20: “Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: ‘God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.’” (MSG)

Who can serve Christ?

Anyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior can serve. There is no discrimination in doing the work of God. Everyone has something to contribute: women, children, men, young and old, and people of every race, culture, and personality type.serving Christ

John 12:26: “If any of you wants to serve me, then follow me. Then you’ll be where I am, ready to serve at a moment’s notice. The Father will honor and reward anyone who serves me.” (MSG)

Galatians 3:28-29: “In Christ’s family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew, slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ. Also, since you are Christ’s family, then you are Abraham’s famous ‘descendant,’ heirs according to the covenant promises.” (MSG)

Where can we serve Christ?

We can serve Christ anywhere: at church, at home, on the job, in the grocery store, and even with social media. It is all a matter of where God calls you to serve. Ministry is needed everywhere!

Hebrews 13:16: “Make sure you don’t take things for granted and go slack in working for the common good; share what you have with others. God takes particular pleasure in acts of worship—a different kind of ‘sacrifice’—that take place in kitchen and workplace and on the streets.” (MSG)

When can we serve Christ?

We can serve Christ at any time. Our service can take place at any time of day and in any season of our lives (good or bad). When God calls us to serve, we must do it! If you wait for the “right time” on your own terms, it will never come.

Luke 9:57-62: The Cost of Following Jesus

And lastly, how can we serve Christ?

We serve Jesus Christ by using our God given gifts. This can vary from person to person and you can do it in more than one way. Here are some examples of how to serve Christ:

  • mentoring youth
  • working in excellence at your 9 to 5 job
  • encouraging a random person at the mall
  • participating in a ministry at church
  • making and passing out meals to the homeless

There are so many unique and creative ways to contribute to the building of God’s kingdom. If you’re not sure how to serve Christ, pray and ask God for guidance. One way ALL believers can serve is by having a Christ-like attitude. Our actions towards others and ourselves should reflect His love.

Matthew 5:14-16: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (NIV)
