Do you consider God’s promises to be sweet? Usually when we think of sweetness, we think of something edible like the creamy goodness of a chocolate fudge brownie topped with vanilla ice cream or a handful of sugar-dusted gummy bears or even… I’m getting carried away. But to make my point, sweet things leave you satisfied and in many ways God’s promises do too.
Psalm 19:10 (NIV): “They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.”
God’s promises are sweet because He keeps them. People will make promises to you day in and day out. Some are kept, many are broken, yet you can rest in knowing that God does exactly what He says He will do. (1 Thessalonians 5:24)
God’s sweet promises cannot be blocked by anything! No situation or person (including you) can stop them from being fulfilled. Granted, it may not happen in the way or timing you expect, but God is still faithful. He accomplishes His promises in a unique manner. You will learn to trust Him and He will get the glory! (Habakkuk 2:3)
The enemy will try to convince you that conforming to certain societal standards is the only way to enjoy the sweetness of God’s promises. But God created you to be different! You do not need to change who you are in order to fulfill His work whether it be your physical features, personality, or values. Since when do we need permission from another person to walk into God’s calling on our lives? God is in control. (James 4:12)
Also, here are a few reminders:
- Being 35 and single is not an indication that you will never get married and have a family of your own.
- You can run a profitable and successful company and still foster community over competition.
- You do not need to relax your natural hair to become a doctor, lawyer, or corporate professional.
- You are never too old to go back to school and pursue a degree.
- You do not need to compromise your identity in Christ to pursue a “once in a lifetime opportunity”!
Do not rush, worry, or fear. Taste the sweetness of God’s promises. He will allow you to do all that He has purposed you to do!
