Love and Obedience

In my previous blog post, I wrote about God’s unconditional love. While we know what it means for God to love us, what does it mean for us to love Him?

Love is more than a verbal proclamation, it is a physical expression. God expressed His love by allowing Jesus to be crucified so we could experience freedom from sin and have a relationship with Him. In the same way, we should express our love for God with an action. That action is obedience.

“If you love me, keep my commands.” – John 14:15

“And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning, His command is that you walk in love.” – 2 John 1:6

Each of us has a Kingdom purpose. As we journey in our walk of faith, God gives us instructions on how to fulfill it. We should trust God enough to respond in obedience to His will. It is not always easy! Many of us hold tight to our own dreams and take pleasure in actions that dishonor God.  Other times it is hard to understand the instructions God gives us. Nevertheless, we must still obey. God’s plans are far greater than ours.

The good news is that we are not left to figure out life on our own. God has blessed us with the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17). He works to transform our dreams and desires into those of God. He also spurs us to focus on Christ and spend quality time with God in prayer, devotion, and the reading of His Word. The Spirit helps us to love and obey God!

Love will be a reoccurring theme through the remainder of March. I’ll be discussing what it means to love God, yourself, and other people. Come along for the journey!

I have started a monthly newsletter! This newsletter provides you with resources for building your relationship with Christ as well as blog updates. It is named Free Woman, Create! 1. Great post indeed!
I totally agree with what you said about the Holy Spirit. We need Him desperately if we are going to accomplish His calling on our lives. I love what 2 Corinthians 1:22 says

“[He has also appropriated and acknowledged us as His by] putting His seal upon us and giving us His [Holy] Spirit in our hearts as the security deposit and guarantee [of the fulfillment of His promise].”

God’s guarantee to us that His promises will be fulfilled in our lives is the Holy Spirit living in us!
