It’s Time To Rest

We work A LOT.

We work to make a living, achieve personal dreams and goals, and to build God’s kingdom. It’s easy to work because we live in a culture that glorifies it. Even when there’s nothing to do, we fill our schedules with tasks to stay busy.

While work is important (James 2:17), it’s crucial that we rest! Many believe that rest is a weakness. Others think that they don’t enough time to rest. Neither is true. God created the heavens and earth in six days. Guess what He did on the seventh day? He rested! If God had the desire and time to rest, we should too.

God needs us to rest. Rest Jesus

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

When we rest we’re able to:

  1. Experience God’s presence.
  2. Be cleansed of our burdens and rejuvenated spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
  3. Be affirmed of God’s vision our lives and receive instruction.

Rest is humbling. It forces us to acknowledge Jesus as the source of our strength. We cannot do anything without Him. When we rest, God blesses us with the energy to do the work He’s called us to do!

How can you rest?

Read God’s word. Meditate on it. Pray and listen for His voice. Journal. Go to sleep. Read a book. Take a long shower or bath. Eat a warm, nourishing meal. Listen to relaxing music or an inspirational podcast. Do what works for you.

If you don’t know when to rest, pray and ask God for direction. He’ll show you moments throughout the day and week where you can refocus on Christ.

It’s time to rest!
