It’s not always easy to trust God’s timing. There are seasons of life where we feel stuck and are willing to do anything to move along. In those moments we must learn to rest in God’s promises. Life may seem to be at a stand still, God is always at work!
If you cannot work in your timing, what can you do? Here are three things:
(1) Spend quality time with God
You should spend quality time with God every day. Pray, read the Bible, and listen for God’s voice through the Holy Spirit. Doing this will strengthen your relationship with Christ and draw you into God’s presence. In His presence you’ll find everything you need – love, hope, forgiveness, direction, healing, protection … the list goes on.
Psalm 46:10 (NIV) – He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
(2) Operate in excellence
Do not use “stuck” seasons of life as an excuse to do your worst work. Although you’re not where you want to be, God has you perfectly placed. Learn how to operate in excellence. Working an unfavorable job? Thank God for it and do your best anyways. Not meeting your business’ sales goals? Persevere with integrity. Even take pride in simple tasks such as cooking and cleaning. You never know who is watching you and what impact your work may have on their faith. Your work should be a representation of God and not your current situation.
Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV) – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
(3) Serve Christ
There is no better time to serve Christ than in your time of waiting. It will redirect the focus from you to God. Join a ministry at church or a Christ-centered volunteer group. Use your gifts to help other people and draw them to God. When you serve, your worries will begin to fade away and your purpose will become clear.
1 Peter 4:10 (NIV) – “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
Spending time with God, operating in excellence, and serving Christ will prepare you for the next season of your life. By the time you reach your breakthrough, all of these things will be ingrained in your daily routine!
I would love to hear from you! When life seemed to be at a stand still, have you ever tried one of the three activities outlined above? What impact did it have on your life? Tell me about it in the comments below!
