“But now, O Lord, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.” – Isaiah 64:8, NKJV

Life is tough! At times it may literally feel like we’re being pressed together, picked at, and even cut down. Although uncomfortable, the hardships we face are not in vain. They are God’s way of molding us into who He created us to be. Each challenge develops our character, gifts, purpose, and faith in God! What results is a wonderful testimony of God’s grace and trustworthiness.

Today we’re making colorful clay ring dishes! As you create, take note of the similarities you have with clay. Watch first hand as a clump of clay is transformed into a unique and useful decorative accessory. At the conclusion of this tutorial my hope is that you’ll embrace the transformative molding process of life. God is making you beautiful!

Step Four: Cut and shape

Use the cookie cutter to cut a circle from the clay. Lay the clay circle inside of a small bowl. This will help the clay form a dish shape.

Step Five: Air Dry

Allow the clay circle to air dry in the small bowl. It usually takes 72 hours for the clay to harden.

Step Six: Sand

Remove the clay dish from the bowl when it is completely dry. Use sandpaper to smooth the surface and edges of the dish.

Step Six: Paint

Paint one layer of gesso or white paint onto the dish and let it dry. Then layer other colors of paint onto the dish – top and bottom. Don’t be afraid to experiment by blending colors, splattering paint, and adding patterns or touches of glitter.

Take 15 minutes today to read, write down, and meditate on this scripture:
“But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me. He said, ‘Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?’ declares the Lord. ‘Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel.’” - Jeremiah 18:4-6 (NIV)
