Hello everyone! My name is Sharifa and welcome to my blog, Sharifa Creates. I have an incredible love for artistic creativity. I sew, craft, paint, draw… you name it and I can do it. If not, I’m always open to learning something new.
Expressing my creativity has not always been easy. There was a time in my life that I made every excuse not to bring out my sewing machine, do a quick sketch, or try out a new DIY project. What was stopping me? A simple but dangerous word: Fear. I feared what others would think of my work. I feared expanding my skill set. I feared being unique.
During this time, I remember thinking about how much I was not myself. Everything I did was to fit into some mold of what I thought people wanted me to be. It was only in my brief moments of creating that I felt like myself.
My passion for artistic creativity was not coincidental. God blessed me with this gift and I was going to continue to struggle if I did not fully embrace it. I realized that creating was (and still is) an act of worship and communication with God. When I create, I feel close to God. I had to have faith that what God had placed in me was sufficient. I had to be who He called me to be.
I started Sharifa Creates to share my creative gifts and document my journey as God directs me in using them. Through this blog, I hope others can be inspired to create and if nothing else, embrace and share their own gifts.
