Tassels have existed since the beginning of time. They are created with unique materials in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. Many people see tassels as purely decorative items. However, tassels serve as everything from status symbols to cultural signifiers. They mean different things to different people! For me personally, tassels signify healing.
In the Bible (Numbers 15:37-41), the Israelites were instructed to attach tassels with a blue cord to the hems of their garments. The tassels were a reminder to keep God’s commands. Later on, Jesus wore the same tassel adorned garment while ministering to people. The sick would touch the hem of Jesus’ garment and be miraculously healed.
“And when the men of that place had knowledge of Him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto Him all that were diseased; And besought Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.” – Matthew 14:35-36 (KJV)
Last month, I created a painting named Brown Skin Girl as an ode to my childhood. The artwork depicts a little Black girl with two Afro puffs. Written on her face are the lyrics to Beyoncé’s song, Brown Skin Girl. In this blog post, I’ll allow you to follow along as I create this piece. As we go, I’ll share my personal story about coming of age with natural hair.
“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” – Luke 6:45, NIV
Pressures of the past year have triggered society’s best and worst behaviors. During the evening news, reporters share ways communities have united to make a positive impact. Yet, in a moment’s notice they switch stories to describe heinous crimes committed by mankind. These behaviors don’t materialize overnight. They come from desires that are stored within the heart.
Our heart’s desires regulate our actions. For example, if our hearts are filled with love, patience, and peace, our actions will be righteous. However, if evil traits such as envy, bitterness, and hatred rest in our hearts, sin will soon follow. We have to examine the ideas and attitudes stored in our hearts and decide whether to cultivate or eliminate them.
I love everything about Christmastime – the gift giving, yummy food, festive music, and especially the holiday decorations. Because Christmas brings me so much joy, I’ve always wondered how I can carry it with me throughout the year in a way that doesn’t include traditional décor. I finally figured it out! This year I made Ankara print fabric ornaments. They’re ornaments that can be used as everyday decorations whether winter, spring, summer, or fall.
In today’s DIY tutorial I will show you how to make Ankara print ornaments. If you don’t have Ankara print, you can use any piece of non-Christmas themed fabric. Let’s start crafting!
Thanksgiving is a few days away which means the fall season is coming to an end. I want to share one last fall project with you before the Christmas festivities kick into full gear. Instead of a DIY tutorial, I will show you the abstract art pumpkins I created to decorate my coffee table.
I used papier-mâché pumpkins, regular craft paint, and a little creativity to make these abstract decorations. When I first purchased these pumpkins, I imagined covering them in fabric or glitter. My goal was to create an unconventional fall craft that did not include autumn colors or patterns.
I was randomly scrolling through Instagram and found two unique nail art designs. The first was cow print and the other, bold geometric shapes. I decided to recreate the designs on the pumpkins rather than my nails.

Thanksgiving Day 2020 may not include your usual group of family or friends. This is not a reason to neglect the festiveness of the occasion. You can still create fall decorations that express gratitude to those you share a home with.
Today, I will show you how to make fabric pumpkins. This simple project requires inexpensive items that you can find around your home. Bond with family or roommates over this fall décor project by inviting them to make fabric pumpkins with you. Keep reading for the tutorial!
My favorite seasonal decorations are rustic fall signs. They are a wonderful way to embrace the cozy and festive atmosphere of autumn. These signs are easy to create! In today’s blog post, I will give you a detailed walk through of how to make a rustic fall sign.
To start, you need to draft a quick sketch of your sign. What shape do you want it to be? What do you want it to say? What colors will you use? These are all questions I answered before making my sign. I searched Pinterest for inspiration, specifically for cute messages. In the end, I decided to make two rectangular shaped rustic signs. One with the message “Autumn Skies, Pumpkin Pies” and the other with “Pumpkin Kisses, Harvest Wishes”.
After planning the logistics, gather your materials. Here is a list of everything I needed:
In January, many declared 2020 to be the year of 20/20 vision. It would be the year to achieve dreams and thrive. Well, 2020 threw everyone for a loop! Who would have imagined being in quarantine for months on end. Instead of declaring clear vision, people now describe the future as being uncertain.
Although we may not know what the future holds, we can be certain that God does know (Jeremiah 29:11). It’s important, more now than ever before, to draw into God’s presence! The Word of God reveals that if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us (James 4:8). Only God knows what the future holds. He can provide us with insight of what is to come and prepare us for it. However, we must be in a position to hear from Him. Continue reading “How To Make Drawstring Bags”→

To be honest, I’ve never worn scrunchies. Still I always admired how they could effortlessly be stretched, twisted, and popped to hold hair in place. The process of learning how to make scrunchies was not nearly as easy as using them. It was like perfecting a recipe. Through much trial and error, I finally got the “formula” right!
