4 Reasons To Keep A Prayer Journal | Motivational Monday

“Then Joshua told the people: Years from now your children will ask you why these rocks are here. Tell them, ‘The Lord our God dried up the Jordan River so we could walk across. He did the same thing here for us that he did for our people at the Red Sea, because he wants everyone on earth to know how powerful he is. And he wants us to worship only him.’” – Joshua 4:21-24, CEV

Prayer journals are beautiful tools useful for strengthening any relationship with God. I started prayer journaling shortly after I began college. I needed a way to document my relationship with God during those transformative years. I used my journal to write down scriptures, prayers, and lessons I learned along the way. Seven years and several journals later, I have a collection of my hardships and how God provided breakthroughs and blessings for each one.

Because of my positive experience with prayer journals, I really want to encourage you to start one. Here are four reasons to keep a prayer journal: Continue reading “4 Reasons To Keep A Prayer Journal | Motivational Monday”

12 Scriptures on God’s Faithfulness | Motivational Monday

god is faithful

“God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”  1 Corinthians 1:9

God is faithful. Although we do not always see God at work, we can know for a fact He is protecting, providing for, and guiding us. God will fulfill the promises He made to us for His glory and our good. God blesses us with the knowledge, wisdom, and resources to do His will. The process may take longer than we expect and it may bring challenges. However, God’s timing is perfect and the hardships we face build our character and prepare us for the journey ahead.

It’s not always easy to believe God’s promises for our life, but we must be encouraged and push forward. We should think of everything He has already done in our life. It is said over and over, but it is true that if God did it before, He will do it again. If that does not encourage you, then open His word! It is the best way to remind yourself of God’s faithfulness.

For today’s Motivational Monday, I have compiled twelve scriptures about God’s faithfulness. Write, meditate on, and pray over them in every season of your life. You will know without a doubt in your mind that God is faithful.

1) Hebrews 6:10 (NIV) Continue reading “12 Scriptures on God’s Faithfulness | Motivational Monday”

Inspirational Letter Banner DIY

It doesn’t take much for me to get off track while working. A notification on my phone, a yawn of tiredness, social media- they all prove to be distractions. I needed a reminder to stay focused. Then I thought of the obvious. Why don’t I just put the phrase “stay focused” on the wall over my desk? Every time I hear Facebook calling my name, all I would have to do is look up and be reminded to stay focused.

I created a simple, pineapple-ly letter banner with this phrase to help me out (and it does!). In today’s tutorial, I will show you how to make your own inspirational letter banner that will encourage you throughout the day. Continue reading “Inspirational Letter Banner DIY”

Live Deeply and Look Up | Motivational Monday

live deeply wm

Welcome to Motivational Monday! Today is the start of a new series on Sharifa Creates. As the name implies, I’ll post something to motivate you at the beginning each week.

I LOVE commencement speeches. I graduated from college three years ago, but I still find encouragement in these speeches, even if it’s just sound bites. It is no surprise that I found myself rolling out of my bed at 8 am a few Saturdays ago to watch the commencement address at my alma mater, Rice University. Dr. Mae Jemison, the first Black woman to go into space, was the speaker. Her message was inspirational, but what stuck with me were the words at the conclusion of her speech. They were simple:

“Life is best when you live deeply and look up.”

“Live deeply and look up.”

These words can mean different things to different people. So today, I would like to share my take on what it means to live deeply and look up.

Live deeply.

“Then the Lord told me: ‘I will give you my message in the form of a vision. Write it clearly enough to be read at a glance. At the time I have decided, my words will come true. You can trust what I say about the future. It may take a long time, but keep on waiting— it will happen!’” – Habakkuk 2:2-3, CEV

God has a purpose for everyone! Isn’t that amazing news? What’s even more amazing is that we don’t have to figure out our purpose on our own. When we seek after God, He reveals His purpose to us through His word and equips us with the tools to carry it out. One tool that God blesses us with is vision.

Vision is the ability to imagine our future-selves working and attaining specific Continue reading “Corkboard Vision Board DIY”

12 Scriptures to Inspire Creatives

biblestudy1wm

Being a creative is fulfilling, but it can be a challenge at times. We face opposition from critics who believe that art is not a necessity. They try to discourage creatives from pursuing our passions by constantly presenting us with the stereotypical, starving artist. And, when an organization makes budget cuts, the arts are usually the first sector to go.

Whether you’re a visual artist, writer, performing artist or social media guru, I’m here to tell you that your creative gift has a purpose. If God blessed you with that gift, IT HAS A PURPOSE! Don’t allow anyone to tell you otherwise. It’s your responsibility to use your gift for good regardless of the fears and doubts of yourself or anyone else. You have to let your light shine through! A Little Jar of Goodness

Many are praying that 2017 will be way better than 2016. In the final weeks of 2016, people poured their hearts out on social media, documenting all of the horrible things that happened in their lives. I was surprised. Out everything that occurred, nothing positive came out of 2016? Not even the small things?

My first blog post of the New Year is one that will encourage you throughout 2017. Count your blessings even in the midst of hardship with what I call A Little Jar of Goodness. Continue reading “A Little Jar of Goodness”
