Do you consider God’s promises to be sweet? Usually when we think of sweetness, we think of something edible like the creamy goodness of a chocolate fudge brownie topped with vanilla ice cream or a handful of sugar-dusted gummy bears or even… I’m getting carried away. But to make my point, sweet things leave you satisfied and in many ways God’s promises do too.
Psalm 19:10 (NIV): “They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.” Continue reading “God’s Sweet Promises | Motivational Monday”

God is our protector. He holds all strength, power, and authority in His hands. While we may go through dangerous and tempting situations, we can rest in knowing that God will keep us safe and not allow evil to prevail.
As Hurricane Harvey traveled across the Texas Gulf Coast region early last week, I prayed and asked God to protect me and my loved ones. We live in the Houston area and I feared that the torrential rainfall and resulting flooding would cause our home harm. But even in my fear, I made it a point to pray scriptures of God’s promises to protect His children. As I prayed God’s Word, I could feel His peace assure me that everything would be okay. God was faithful and He protected me and my family from the dangers presented by Hurricane Harvey.
When you face a challenging situation, do not be fearful! Know that God is your protector and He will provide all of your needs. Pray and speak God’s word in faith and He will do exactly what He says.
Here are 15 scriptures to pray for God’s protection: Continue reading “15 Scriptures to Pray for God’s Protection”
Hurricane Harvey struck the Texas Gulf Coast over the weekend, causing heartbreaking destruction. The Houston Metropolitan area in particular is suffering with severe, record breaking flooding. Many people have lost their homes and all they owned. Some have even lost their lives. It goes without saying that we are in need of help!
Please consider making a donation to one of the LOCAL organizations listed below to help in the relief effort. The funds collected will go directly to individuals in need. If you are in the Houston area and are able to volunteer in any capacity, please do! Continue reading “Donate to Local Organizations- Hurricane Harvey Relief”

Saturday, August 12th marked the three year blogiversary of Sharifa Creates! My first blog post was a recap of my college graduation dinner party decorations. I posted pictures of jumbo tissue paper flowers, tassels, and leftover party favors. The pictures and descriptions were not the best, but I was excited to begin my blogging journey and see where God led me.
Sharifa Creates is still here (I stuck to it!) and it has grown so much since the very first time I hit the publish button. Many lessons came with this growth. For today’s post, I would like to share three of them with you.
1. Start where you are with what you have.

“Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” Galatians 6:4-5
It happens every day. We scroll through social media and see family, friends, and complete strangers post about their new car, marriage, or career move. While we like their posts and leave congratulatory comments, we secretly begin to compare our lives to theirs. Why haven’t I met my soulmate? Why haven’t I received a promotion at work? Where’s my breakthrough? These are all questions I’m sure we have all asked at one point.
When life is not going as planned, it is easy to compare ourselves to our peers. However, comparison distracts us from pursuing God’s purpose for our life. We begin to focus on everything we lack instead of God. This tears down our confidence Continue reading “Stop With The Comparisons! | Motivational Monday”
