Celebrating 8 Years of Sharifa Creates

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16, NIV

When I graduated from college, I did not know what was next. I earned my degree in mathematics but felt led to embrace the creativity I had suppressed during those four years. So, I made a commitment to God: Wherever He guided me, I would follow.

Then God gave me the vision for Sharifa Creates. A do-it-yourself arts & crafts blog that shares my creative “light” and inspires others to do the same. On August 12th, 2014, I pursued the vision by publishing my first post.

Running Sharifa Creates has its hills and valleys. I have faced seasons of writer’s block and become frustrated with failed DIY tutorials. However, there are also times when readers share their Sharifa Creates’ creations and leave encouraging comments.

My journey as a DIY arts & crafts blogger carries on. How far will God take Sharifa Creates? I do not know, but I continue to follow Him. Only God knows what is next. I am confident that where He leads me will be much greater than anything I can ask or imagine. 8 years and 224 blog posts later and I feel like I am just getting started!

Peace & Blessings,

Sharifa 💕

Saturday, August 12th marked the three year blogiversary of Sharifa Creates! My first blog post was a recap of my college graduation dinner party decorations. I posted pictures of jumbo tissue paper flowers, tassels, and leftover party favors. The pictures and descriptions were not the best, but I was excited to begin my blogging journey and see where God led me.

Sharifa Creates is still here (I stuck to it!) and it has grown so much since the very first time I hit the publish button. Many lessons came with this growth. For today’s post, I would like to share three of them with you.

1. Start where you are with what you have.
