
A quick Pinterest search for scrunchies results in a diverse array: butterfly scrunchies, extra-large scrunchies, patchwork scrunchies, and even zippered scrunchies. It is amazing how the basic scrunchie design has transformed over time.
Two years ago, I published How to Make the Perfect Scrunchie: A Complete Guide to Sewing Scrunchies. In it, I provide instructions on how to create four sizes of scrunchies using one sewing pattern. Since then, I have learned to make more scrunchie styles with the same pattern. I will share tutorials for these scrunchie styles in a Sharifa Creates series named Stylish Scrunchies.
First up are color block scrunchies! Color blocking is a creative way to add personality to scrunchies. By contrasting colors, you can create bold and eye-catching designs. How to Make Color Block Scrunchies

Supplies
- How to Make the Perfect Scrunchie
- Two different colors or patterns of fabric
- Thread
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Ruler
Instructions
- Use the pattern to cut one rectangle from each color of fabric. Before cutting, add ½” to the length to account for the seam allowance. Press the fabric.
- Sew together the widths of the two fabric rectangles, wrong sides out, using a ½” seam allowance. Press the seam open.
- Follow steps 2-8 of How to Make the Perfect Scrunchie to complete the project.
