20 Scriptures for the Skilled Worker

If you are reading this blog, there is a 99.9% chance that you are a creative person. I will take it a step further and say you are a skilled worker. God has anointed your hands to take hold of ordinary materials and turn them into items that are not only visually appealing but also sources of love, joy, and peace. You can create art that reflects God’s beauty, reminding viewers of His word and character.

God is Elohim, The Mighty Creator. He created the heavens and earth (Genesis 1:1). He is the ultimate artist, master architect, and divine craftsman. God created us in His image, meaning that He has also given us the ability to create (Genesis 1:26-27). We are His skilled workers. Skilled workers are individuals who are filled with the Holy Spirit and have “wisdom, understanding, and ability in every craft” (Exodus 31:3, CSB).

Skilled workers create at God’s command to bring God’s glory from heaven to earth. Maybe you have dreams and visions of garments, and once you awake, you sketch and sew them. To another, the Lord gives you an idea for functional artwork and provides step-by-step instructions for making it. Or, God anointed your entire family to be woodworkers. You have spent years honing your craft and are known in your community for integrity furnishings.

No matter the ability, the role of a skilled worker is valuable. Do not allow fear, unbelief, or the lies of the enemy to convince you otherwise. Be encouraged! Here are 12 bible verses that affirm God’s call for the skilled worker

1) Genesis 1-2: The Beginning

2) Genesis 1:1 (NIV)

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

3) Genesis 1:26-27 (AMP)

“Then God said, ‘Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

4) Genesis 1:31 (AMP)

8) Exodus 35:30-35 (NIV)

And he has given both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach others. He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers.’”

9) Proverbs 22:29 (NIV)

“Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.”

10) Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

11) 2 Chronicles 2:5-7 (NIV)

“The temple I am going to build will be great, because our God is greater than all other gods. But who is able to build a temple for him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain him? Who then am I to build a temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before him? Send me, therefore, a man skilled to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, and in purple, crimson and blue yarn, and experienced in the art of engraving, to work in Judah and Jerusalem with my skilled workers, whom my father David provided.”

12) Proverbs 31: The Virtuous Wife

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

18) Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV)

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

19) Romans 11:29 (CEV)

“God doesn’t take back the gifts he has given or forget about the people he has chosen.”

20) Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
