Conversation hearts are a Valentine’s Day staple. I remember receiving these candies along with Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse cards from my classmates in elementary school. Although these candies tasted awful, they were super adorable. I always wanted to keep them just to appreciate their cuteness. But, they were food and I eventually had to throw them away.
Today I’m showing you how to make a conversation heart that will last forever. This tutorial will leave you with an unusual craving for them. Here’s how to make a conversation heart pillow!
How To Make Conversation Heart Pillows
- Two pieces of felt that are the same color – they will serve as the conversation heart’s front and back
- One piece of pink felt – this will be used to create the conversation heart’s message
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- An alphabet and heart stencil
- Scissors and chalk
- A needle and thread or sewing machine
I used 9×12 inch pieces of felt to create my conversation heart. The heart stencil should fit into the dimensions of the felt sheet. If you would like to create a larger pillow, purchase felt by the yard from the fabric store.
Align the felt for the conversation heart’s front and back. Trace and cut the heart shape from the felt, creating two separate hearts. Choose a message to display and trace it onto the pink piece of felt. Cut the letters out and arrange them on the front of the heart.
Hot glue the letters to the heart. Realign the heart’s front and back before stitching the edges together using a ½” seam allowance. Leave a portion of edge open while sewing. Use this opening to fill the heart with fiberfill. Once filled, stitch the heart closed.
Give your conversation heart pillow to someone special or use it as decoration!
