How To Make A Tassel Keychain

Tassels have existed since the beginning of time. They are created with unique materials in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. Many people see tassels as purely decorative items. However, tassels serve as everything from status symbols to cultural signifiers. They mean different things to different people! For me personally, tassels signify healing.

In the Bible (Numbers 15:37-41), the Israelites were instructed to attach tassels with a blue cord to the hems of their garments. The tassels were a reminder to keep God’s commands. Later on, Jesus wore the same tassel adorned garment while ministering to people. The sick would touch the hem of Jesus’ garment and be miraculously healed.

“And when the men of that place had knowledge of Him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto Him all that were diseased; And besought Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.” – Matthew 14:35-36 (KJV)

Jesus’ healing power rested on every part of Him including the tassels on the hem of His garment. Even if a person touched His tassels, they would be healed.

Now, when I see a tassel, I am reminded of this scripture and Jesus’ supernatural ability to heal.

In today’s DIY tutorial, I will show you how to create a tassel keychain. Let it remind you of something special or simply use it as a decorative accessory. Keep reading for the instructions!

DIY Beaded Tassel Keychain Tutorial

Supplies

  • Cording
  • Split ring
  • Beads
  • 4” cardboard square
  • Eye needle (optional)
  • Scissors

Instructions

Step One: Measure

Measure 12 inches of cording.

Step Two: Loop

Fold the cording in half and loop it onto the split ring.

Step Three: Thread

Thread the beads onto the cording. If necessary, use an eye needle to assist in this process. Place the split ring aside for later.

Step Four: Wrap

Grab more cording and wrap it around the cardboard square 10-12 times. Before cutting the cord, make sure the loose ends hang from the same side.

Step Five: Cut

To cut the cording free from the square, identify the side where the loose ends hang and cut a straight line down that edge.

Step Six: Add cording

Open the two main cords of the split ring. Place the strips of cording in between them. The cording should be even on both sides of the split ring.

Step Seven: Tie a knot

Tie a knot with the two main cords. This will secure the strips of cording.

Step Eight: Fluff

Fluff the cording.

Take 15 minutes today to read, write down, and meditate on this scripture:
“As Jesus and the disciples were going to the rabbi’s home, a woman who had been sick for twelve years with internal bleeding came up behind Him and touched a tassel of His robe, for she thought, ‘If I only touch Him, I will be healed.’ Jesus turned around and spoke to her. ‘Daughter,’ He said, ‘all is well! Your faith has healed you.’ And the woman was well from that moment.” - Matthew 9:19-22 (TLB)
