In the age of social media, we are just one swipe away from a meme that tells us what women should do to be loved. We must be loyal, ladylike, and submissive. All while keeping up with our appearance and caring for others by cooking, cleaning, and nurturing. In reality, none of these things make you lovable especially in God’s Kingdom.
God’s love is unconditional! He gives it freely and consistently because we are His daughters. God does not require anything from us in return for His love. Granted, God may not like some of the things we do, but His love still prevails. He loved us first – before we loved Him, ourselves, or anyone else. The beauty in it all is that God’s love is personified by Christ. Jesus was crucified and resurrected from the grave so that we could be forgiven of our unrighteousness and have a personal relationship with our Father. God not only tells us that He loves us, He shows it! Continue reading “12 Scriptures on God’s Unconditional Love”→
The hardest people to buy presents for are crafters. They make everything! Instead of stressing over what to get, buy them the supplies they need to continue DIY-ing. Here’s a gift guide for the crafty creative!
P.S. Don’t be afraid to self-indulge! Purchase some of these items for yourself.
I’m a strong advocate for DIY-ing Christmas presents. This marks my fourth year in a row making gifts instead of buying them. I started DIY-ing gifts because I was tired of heading into congested malls only to not find anything worth giving to friends and family. I couldn’t even bear the wait for items I ordered online to be shipped to me.
I had to take the initiative! Now I find unique YouTube and Pinterest tutorials for my favorite DIY projects, purchase a few items from the craft store, and create. It’s a peaceful process!
Nothing beats handmade gifts. They are from the heart. This is why I put together a DIY gift guide just for you. Make your presents this holiday season!
I have one Halloween tradition. That is to shop for half-priced candy on November 1st. I just don’t have the “let’s celebrate Halloween” bone in my body. Blame it on my parents. As a child, I was not allowed to dress up and go trick or treating. Instead I watched “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” and passed out candy to the children who could participate.
I do, however, admire the effort that people put into their Halloween costumes. I have seen Starbucks Frappuccinos, donuts, Solange look-a-likes, and Emojis. The ideas are exceptionally creative.
The sweetness continues on Sharifa Creates! Today I am cranking out a new DIY project for a flower infused cake stand. It is a unique and chic way to display cakes, cupcakes, and other baked goods. You cannot find this in a regular shmegular store! Keep reading for the tutorial. Continue reading “DIY Flower Infused Cake Stand”→
It’s been a long time coming, but I finally had the chance to write this blog post! At the end of July, I participated in the Black Girl Magic Art Show and Market at The Insomnia Gallery in Houston, Texas. This was my first art market since graduating from college. Today, I’m talking all about my experience.
Prior to learning about this event, I was taking a Bible study class called Chase The Lion. This class encouraged me to pursue God’s dream for my life and the fears attached to them. God showed me that it was time to step outside of my comfort zone. I began praying for an opportunity to participate in an art show or market. It was a struggle for Continue reading “Black Girl Magic Art Market Recap”→
God is our protector. He holds all strength, power, and authority in His hands. While we may go through dangerous and tempting situations, we can rest in knowing that God will keep us safe and not allow evil to prevail.
As Hurricane Harvey traveled across the Texas Gulf Coast region early last week, I prayed and asked God to protect me and my loved ones. We live in the Houston area and I feared that the torrential rainfall and resulting flooding would cause our home harm. But even in my fear, I made it a point to pray scriptures of God’s promises to protect His children. As I prayed God’s Word, I could feel His peace assure me that everything would be okay. God was faithful and He protected me and my family from the dangers presented by Hurricane Harvey.
When you face a challenging situation, do not be fearful! Know that God is your protector and He will provide all of your needs. Pray and speak God’s word in faith and He will do exactly what He says.
Saturday, August 12th marked the three year blogiversary of Sharifa Creates! My first blog post was a recap of my college graduation dinner party decorations. I posted pictures of jumbo tissue paper flowers, tassels, and leftover party favors. The pictures and descriptions were not the best, but I was excited to begin my blogging journey and see where God led me.
Sharifa Creates is still here (I stuck to it!) and it has grown so much since the very first time I hit the publish button. Many lessons came with this growth. For today’s post, I would like to share three of them with you.
“Then Joshua told the people: Years from now your children will ask you why these rocks are here.Tell them, ‘The Lord our God dried up the Jordan River so we could walk across. He did the same thing here for us that he did for our people at the Red Sea, because he wants everyone on earth to know how powerful he is. And he wants us to worship only him.’” – Joshua 4:21-24, CEV
Prayer journals are beautiful tools useful for strengthening any relationship with God. I started prayer journaling shortly after I began college. I needed a way to document my relationship with God during those transformative years. I used my journal to write down scriptures, prayers, and lessons I learned along the way. Seven years and several journals later, I have a collection of my hardships and how God provided breakthroughs and blessings for each one.
