DIY Stud Earrings

I was a late bloomer to ear piercing. It was not until the summer before my freshman year of college that I got my ears pierced. I was so excited that I immediately purchased a bunch of earrings. Over the years my earring collection has grown to include earrings of all styles, shapes, and colors.

In a recent visit to the jewelry section of my local craft store, I realized that I could easily create my own quality earrings. You can too! Keep reading for instructions on how to make stud earrings.

How To Make Stud Earrings

Supplies

• Gems with flat backs
• Flat post earrings
• Earring backs
• Acrylic paint
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks
• Paintbrush
• Gloss sealant
• Gold leaf or paint markers (optional)
• Rubbing alcohol

Instructions

Step One: Paint

Begin by painting one layer of paint onto the gem. Allow it to air dry before painting a second layer.

Step Two (optional): Decorate

Get creative by adding polka dots or stripes to your gem using a paint marker. I decided to add small flakes of gold leaf to my own.

Step Three: Seal

Paint an even layer of gloss sealant onto the gem. This will smooth and seal the acrylic paint.

Step Four: Glue

Add one drop of hot glue to the flat earring post. Firmly press and attach it to the gem. Where you attach the post on the gem will determine where it sits on your ear. If you attach it near the edge it will hang from your ear. Attach it to the center and it will cover your ear lobe.

Step Five: Clean

Attach the earring back. Repeat the previous steps with the second stud earring. Then wipe the posts and backs with rubbing alcohol to disinfect them.
