DIY Ankara Print Christmas Ornaments

I love everything about Christmastime – the gift giving, yummy food, festive music, and especially the holiday decorations. Because Christmas brings me so much joy, I’ve always wondered how I can carry it with me throughout the year in a way that doesn’t include traditional décor. I finally figured it out! This year I made Ankara print fabric ornaments. They’re ornaments that can be used as everyday decorations whether winter, spring, summer, or fall.

In today’s DIY tutorial I will show you how to make Ankara print ornaments. If you don’t have Ankara print, you can use any piece of non-Christmas themed fabric. Let’s start crafting!

Ankara Print Christmas Ornament Tutorial

Supplies

  • 3” ball ornament*
  • Ankara print fabric
  • ⅝” width ribbon
  • ¼” width ribbon
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Scissors

*It’s best to use a thick glass ornament. The hot glue can melt the plastic.

Instructions

Step One: Cut one…

  • 10” square of fabric
  • 18” strip of the ⅝” ribbon
  • 10” strip of the ¼” ribbon.

Step Two: Glue

Place the fabric square on a flat surface with its wrong side up. Hot glue the bauble ornament onto the middle of the fabric square.

Step Three: Draw a circle

Draw a circle of hot glue around the ornament’s opening.

Step Four: Gather fabric

Gather the fabric and attach it to the circle of hot glue. Try to keep the fabric as smooth as possible to retain the ball’s shape.

Step Five: Fold and glue

Fold and glue down the excess fabric.

Step Six: Tie

Tie a bow around the ornament using the ⅝” ribbon. Then use the ¼” ribbon to tie a loop on the ornament’s hook, hiding the knot by the base.

Step Seven: Trim

Trim any loose threads.

Step Eight: Decorate!

Decorate to your heart’s content throughout the year!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
